President Donald Trump publicly lashed out at Late Night host Seth Meyers on Saturday, calling him “the least talented person to perform live in the history of television.” The criticism came after Meyers mocked Trump’s recent comments about aircraft carrier catapults during his trip to Asia.
Trump Responds on Truth Social
In a Truth Social post dated Nov. 1, President Trump wrote that he had watched Meyers’ show “for the first time in years,” only to hear the comedian “talk endlessly about electric catapults on aircraft carriers.” The president reiterated his long-held belief that traditional steam-powered catapults are superior, calling the newer, electric versions “stupid and overly expensive.”
“Forget the government shutdown, it’s catapult time!” read a post on Late Night’s official Instagram account, promoting Meyers’ segment about Trump’s remarks. Meyers went on to parody Trump’s speech, joking, “Guy spends more time thinking about catapults than Wile E. Coyote.”
Meyers’ Monologue Sparks Controversy
During the Sept. 18 Late Night episode, Meyers lampooned Trump’s comments while performing his trademark impressions of the president. “Next, he’s gonna start complaining about how our troops don’t tie themselves to rockets anymore,” Meyers joked.
Mocking Trump’s speaking style, Meyers continued, “We used to strap our soldiers to the rockets, and they loved it. But then everything got woke, and they said you can’t tie a person to a rocket. We miss those days and we’re bringing them back.”
Later in the segment, Meyers quipped that “experts say it would cost billions to go back to the old system, but Trump thinks he knows more about aviation than everyone else because he dances like one of those guys that holds the signaling sticks on the runway.”
Trump Calls Meyers “Deranged” and “Talentless”
The president did not find Meyers’ impersonation amusing. “On and on he went, a truly deranged lunatic,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “Why does NBC waste its time and money on a guy like this?” He added that Meyers had “no talent,” “no ratings,” and was “100% anti-Trump, which is probably illegal.”
This is not the first time the president has targeted Meyers. In August, Trump criticized NBC for renewing Late Night with Seth Meyers, calling the host “the personality of an insecure child.”
A Long History of Criticism
Meyers has been a frequent critic of Trump since the former business mogul’s 2016 campaign. His political monologues often focus on Trump’s speeches, policies, and Truth Social posts. Like other late-night hosts — including Jimmy Kimmel, Stephen Colbert, and Jon Stewart — Meyers has continued to use Trump as a recurring comedic subject.
Despite the feud, Meyers’ show remains a staple of NBC’s late-night lineup. However, the renewed exchange underscores the enduring friction between the president and mainstream media personalities who regularly lampoon him.
As of now, NBC has not commented on the president’s remarks, and Meyers has yet to issue a public response.
