LOS ANGELES, DECEMBER 19, 2025
Rob and Michele Reiner died from “multiple sharp force injuries,” according to newly released records from the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner, which list the manner of death for both victims as homicide.
The findings, released Wednesday, indicate the couple’s deaths were caused by another person. Their son, Nick Reiner, is accused by prosecutors of fatally stabbing his parents.
At a news conference on Tuesday, the Los Angeles County District Attorney alleged that Nick Reiner used a knife in the killings. Sharp force injuries are defined as wounds caused by sharp or pointed objects.
What the Medical Examiner Records Show
According to the medical examiner’s report, Rob and Michele Reiner both died on Sunday, December 14, the same day their bodies were later discovered at the couple’s West Los Angeles home and authorities were notified.
The records specify:
- Cause of death: Multiple sharp force injuries
- Manner of death: Homicide
- Status: Remains cleared for release to next of kin
No additional medical details were provided in the public release.
Discovery of the Bodies
A source familiar with the investigation said the Reiners’ daughter, Romy, went to check on her parents around 3 p.m. local time on December 14 after being unable to reach them. Upon entering the home, she discovered their bodies.
The source said Romy then went across the street to her own residence and told a friend who was staying with her to call 911. Emergency responders and law enforcement officers arrived shortly thereafter.
Police later confirmed that both victims were found in the master bedroom of the residence.
Criminal Case Against Their Son
Nick Reiner has been accused of killing his parents, according to the district attorney’s office. Prosecutors have alleged the attack involved a knife, a claim consistent with the medical examiner’s determination of sharp force injuries.
Authorities have not publicly detailed a motive, and it remains unclear what events led up to the fatal incident. The investigation is ongoing, and further information is expected to be released as the case proceeds through the court system.
At this stage, prosecutors have characterized the case as a double homicide, and the medical examiner’s findings formally support that conclusion.
A Case Under Intense Scrutiny
The deaths have drawn significant public attention due to the circumstances of the alleged crime and the familial relationship between the accused and the victims. Law enforcement officials have emphasized that the investigation is active and that all evidence is being reviewed carefully.
The Los Angeles Police Department has not released additional details about the condition of the scene or the sequence of events beyond confirming where the bodies were found.
Court records and charging documents are expected to provide further clarity in the coming days.
What Happens Next
With the medical examiner’s findings now public, the case is expected to move forward in criminal court. Nick Reiner’s next court appearance has not yet been publicly announced.
Authorities have said no further comment will be made until additional filings are completed.
The medical examiner’s office noted that the Reiners’ remains are now ready to be released to their next of kin, clearing the way for funeral arrangements.
