Glove With DNA Found Near Nancy Guthrie’s Home May Match Suspect Seen on Camera

TUCSON, ARIZONA — February 15, 2026
A glove containing DNA recovered near the home of missing 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie appears to match one worn by a masked individual captured on doorbell camera footage the morning she disappeared, marking one of the most significant developments yet in a case that has gripped the United States for more than two weeks.
Federal investigators say forensic testing is underway to determine whether the DNA can identify the person seen outside Guthrie’s home in Tucson. Authorities believe the glove could provide a direct link to the suspect and potentially lead to a breakthrough in the ongoing investigation.
Nancy Guthrie, the mother of Savannah Guthrie of NBC’s Today, was reported missing on February 1 after surveillance cameras recorded a masked person approaching her residence in the early morning hours.
DNA Evidence Could Be Key Breakthrough
According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the glove was recovered within the vicinity of Guthrie’s Catalina Foothills neighborhood and appears visually consistent with gloves worn by the suspect in the surveillance footage.
Officials emphasized that final laboratory results are still pending, but forensic experts say even small DNA samples can be enough to identify an individual if they match profiles in law enforcement databases.
Investigators have already collected multiple pieces of physical evidence, including gloves and other items found up to 10 miles from the residence. The discovery of DNA-bearing material significantly raises the chances of identifying the person responsible.
Former law enforcement officials say such evidence can dramatically narrow the suspect pool and accelerate the case.
“This is potentially pivotal,” investigators familiar with similar cases have said, noting that DNA evidence often becomes the foundation for arrests and prosecutions.

Suspect Description and Backpack Provide Additional Leads
Authorities previously described the suspect as a male standing approximately 5 feet 9 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall with an average build. The individual was seen wearing a ski mask, gloves, and carrying a black Ozark Trail backpack.
Investigators are actively tracking purchases of similar backpacks and reviewing surveillance footage across the Tucson area to identify potential matches.
The suspect’s behavior on camera — including attempts to tamper with security equipment — suggested familiarity with the property’s surveillance system, officials said.
Despite extensive searches and more than 14,000 tips received from the public, no arrests have been made.
Savannah Guthrie Issues Emotional Plea
As the investigation enters its third week, Savannah Guthrie released a new public message urging whoever is responsible to come forward.
“It is never too late to do the right thing,” she said in a video shared on social media.
She also reaffirmed the family’s belief that her mother could still be alive.
“It’s been two weeks since our mom was taken, and we still have hope and we still believe,” she said.
Family members, supporters, and members of the public have gathered outside the home to leave flowers, ribbons, and messages of support.
FBI Expands Investigation as Urgency Grows
The FBI continues to conduct searches, analyze forensic evidence, and follow leads across Arizona.
Law enforcement officials have said the presence of DNA that does not belong to Guthrie or her family represents one of the strongest forensic clues uncovered so far.
Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward immediately.
The case remains active, and investigators say forensic results from the glove could arrive soon and determine the next phase of the investigation.
For Guthrie’s family, the hope remains unchanged: bringing her home safely.
